Hey Everyone! Jasmine again,
Continuing from the last blog. I'm sitting here realizing that i need a re-twist BAD. i haven't done it in weeks, because i am so busy. learning to do your hair may be time consuming, but it will save your wallet for sure, especially if you are looking to save. For a good while i didn't know how to do it, and i would pay anywhere from $100-$200.They would charge extra because i'm tender-headed. I knew that there may be times where i would be busy or the stylist would be booked. And i would be heading off to college soon, so i had learned myself. 10 Youtube videos, and 5 different gels later i finally got it down. One of the hardest part about it is making your locks stay for a long time, but i didn't have the time or the patience to that before. most of the time i needed my hair done for one week and then i would let it relax. The other part is finding the right gel. It took me forever to find a good gel. Many stores don't cary products for people with different textured hair. While we don't sell hair gel, the best one i use is the "Loc-N-Twist" Hair gel for locks and braids. the price can range from $18-$28, but it lasts a long time. Now, lets get started
Things you will need:
Metal Clamps, Rat tail comb (for precise parts), Twisting gel, small rubber bands (for styling), hair dryer
You can find these at your local hair store like "Sallys" or "Boom Boom Hair Supply" Im sure you can check "Walmart" but i am not certain that they have everything.
How to get started:
it is preferred to do this after you wash your hair, when your scalp is damp.
First you want to see which direction your loc will hold. Palm roll it to the left or right. if it unravels, then it is NOT the direction you want to twist your hair. try doing this for one row and the majority that is in the same direction is most likely the direction you twist for the rest of your head.
How to Re-Twist:
1:When you re-twist, you want to take the lock you want to twist and separate them from the other locks this makes it easier to see the parts.
2:Then take the baby hairs from the root (scalp) that are apart of the loc and gather both parts. It's ok if you have a lot of hair but make sure that it's parted correctly. You can use the rat tail comb to make the parts even and crisp.
3: then take about a fingertip full of gel, and put it on both your pointer finger, and your thumb.
4:Then from the root you spread the gel with the gathered baby hair and start of the loc until combined
5: put both hands near the end of the rootlike you are clapping then twist in the direction that the loc will stay in. Keep twisting until it is tight enough, or when you finish it curls up.
6: finish by putting a metal clamp where you twisted root and when you finish your whole head dry it so it will stay
after all of this you can style your hair however you want to it is all up to you. it might take a while to fully get it down, but the more you practice, the better you will get at it! I hope this helped and have a blessed day!
